FAQ.
Got Questions? We Have Answers. We at Totally Websites have been building websites for a number of years. In that time we have gained a vast amount of experience, skills and knowledge. So we put together this FAQ page to answer many of the frequently asked questions we were asked along the way.
I am totally new to this website thing. How does the whole process work?
First of all, don’t worry. We’ve done this sort of thing before. You can learn about our time proven process in Our Process page. Take a look by clicking the link below, then come back here if you’ve got further questions to ask.
How long will it take?
We try to get a new website up and running in two to six weeks. But a lot of this depends on you, the client. What usually makes the process take longer is not receiving information from the client (such as content and images) in a timely manner.
How much will it cost?
The cost of your website depends on the simplicity or complexity of its design and function, whether or not the client will provide the content, or how much assistance will be required with copy-writing and editing, image searches, image formatting, whether or not special plugins will be installed for appointment scheduling, mailing lists, e-commerce and payment gateways, if galleries/portfolios are to be set up, etc. The cost will usually range from £399 for a 5-page site to £599+ for a larger site with e-commerce. One-page ‘business card’ websites start at £199. Our Pricing page provides further information.
What are your payment terms?
We require a minimum deposit of 50% of the agreed total price before our work begins. The balance will need to be paid before your website is launched.
What's included?
The following items are included on all sites (unless you prefer otherwise):
- WordPress set-up
- responsive theme
- home page image or slider header
- stock images/icons
- logo integration
- site navigation
- contact form
- map
- social media links
- social sharing
- email addresses @yourdomain.com
- testimonials
- UpDraft Plus backup plugin
- on-page SEO for 5 pages
- spelling, punctuation, and grammar check
- XML site map
Do you offer email addresses with my domain?
Our hosting packages come with email addresses e.g. [email protected], [email protected], etc. Each email address will be setup to forward emails to your chosen personal or business email address. Any number of your hosted email addresses may be forwarded to one or more other email addresses. All emails sent to your hosted email accounts are stored on the server up to an unlimited amount of storage. You can access your emails using our chosen webmail packages through a separate username and password.
What If I need to add or change content on my site later on?
We offer these services at a £40 hourly rate billed in 15 minute increments.
What does 'responsive' mean?
Responsive means that your website will adapt to different screen sizes so will look great on mobile devices.
Do you re-design existing websites?
We prefer not to work on sites we didn’t build. It takes too long to become familiar with someone else’s platform and customisation, and there’s simply too many variables that can cause problems. However, if it is a simple WordPress website, we would certainly consider a redesign, so please get in touch with us. That said, we’re happy to offer a free assessment of your current website and suggest ideas for designing a new one using WordPress.
I need a domain name. Can you help?
We can register a domain(s) for you through our account. We will edit the domain Registrant information to display your contact details. We will retain the Administrative, Technical and Billing details so that we can look after your domain account for the lifetime of your website. If you would like us to change all the details in the domain account to your own, that’s fine, but your domain will remain on our account for the lifetime of your website.
If you already have a domain account and want to keep it under your control, but you want us to host your website, you will need to change the nameserver addresses to ours. If you want us to change the nameserver addresses for you, you will need to provide us with your login details for your domain account. If you would like us to transfer your domain over to your own domain account, we can provide a separate quote for that.
Do you provide hosting?
We offer a hosting service using our preferred hosting provider. Hosting through us means that we can manage the backend of your website and look after things such as bandwidth limits and storage capacity. Our regular hosting package comes with 1Gb bandwidth per month and 500Mb of storage. This is plenty for most small websites. However, it may be necessary to increase bandwidth and/or storage capacity to cope with demand.
If you already have a hosting account and wish to use it to host your website, you will need to instruct your hosting provider to install our preferred content management system and then provide us with the login address and an administrator account. We will be unable to manage your hosting account on a server that is not managed by us. The updates to, and management of that server will be up to you or your preferred hosting provider.
Do you offer website maintenance?
Yes. We regularly monitor your website’s performance, carry out a weekly backup, and if you choose our Maintenance Service Plan, we make sure the software is kept up-to-date to keep things nice and secure.
Do you offer SEO?
Yes. we offer on-page Search Engine Optimization on five pages. We don’t guarantee improvements to your website’s search engine ranking, but the web pages that we develop are accessible to search engines. If you need anything beyond that, we can provide a separate quote for that, or suggest other agencies who specialise in SEO.
What If I need to add or change content on my site later on?
We offer these services at a £40 hourly rate billed in 15 minute increments.
